Crossings Festival

Several of our members participated in the Crossings Festival in Southern Italy, which also included the design and build of a lifeguard station/ events stage/ boat stand.

A series of teaching workshops, interviews with local residents, social events and performance art led to the construction of adaptable timber furniture, painted murals, posters, and a newsletter celebrating the shared experience of a collaborative craft meet.

Designed and built in collaboration with international students and educators, local residents, and refugees eager to share their knowledge and skills, this was an opportunity for inexperienced makers to practice and become competent with simple tools, crafting a solid structure at an inhabitable scale.

The completion was celebrated with meals, music and dance around the tower, sharing stories and new experiences before the team departed for home.

Led by Orizzontale, in coordination with Le Seppie, students and teachers from London Metropolitan University and funding by Erasmus+.
