Calabria Research
Extended research trip analysing the history, existing context, and unique stories of the residents in Southern Italy’s Belmonte region, which led to a proposal for a new self-build community in the valley basin.
Seeking to better understand the impact of a shrinking population of increasingly older residents of a coastal town, nearby hill village, and scattered Frazionis (small family-focused communes specialising in a particular craft interlinked through trade).
This research was made possible with funding from London Metropolitan University, assistance from their staff and students, the generous support of Le Seppie and the incredibly welcoming residents of Belmonte Calabro.
