Furniture Design

Various small furniture projects designed and built by us, with a focus on buildability, wilful material use, honesty, and simplicity.

Including a bench was conceived to fit a standard size of cushion, made from a single sheet of typical plywood and slotted together with no permanent fixings. The cushion finishes short either end allow to space to leave glasses and books, or fit normal-sizzed decorative cushions for further seating.

It was made using a mix of hand and power tools, propped up on crates out in East London’s green spaces over the course of a weekend. Curious passersby stopped to ask questions and offer thoughts on the next iteration, but universally were happy to see people working with their hands shaping common materials into something as tangible as a bench.

A travel desk was also constructed from offcuts of untreated mdf boards fixed through to cheap lengths of stud timber, held together with a series of screws allowing the whole piece to be dismantled and wrapped in bungee cord to travel using public transport.
